50 Social Media Sites to Make Your Way to the Top
Social Networking is the water cooler of the internet world. One of the easiest ways to promote and expand your website is to reach out to others on the internet. There are many ways to do this, and the more places you leave your mark, the more your name will build. Big Money Bloggers (John Chow, Shoemoney, etc.) all claim their names on social networking sites before someone else can steal their identity and make a profit off of their username, so what should stop you from doing the same? So to make things a tad easier, here are some of my recommended networking sites, ranging from the most common to the obscure.

*Many sites could fit into one or more of these categories, so make sure you explore everything to its fullest potential.

Hey, I am Syed Balkhi, The guy who is behind Balkhis Inc. I entered the industry back in 2002 not knowing a single thing. I barely spoke English at that time. In the past six years, my language barrier has been eliminated. Aside from English, now I also speak html, and php. Along with the languages I have also managed to master a few arts. Art of web-designing started when I first entered. Messing around with photoshop, I learned how to create my first web design. Now I founded a web designing firm Uzzz Productions. After running numerous amount of websites in various niche, I have mastered the art of web-development. Now I am compiling a resource of what I already know, and what I am learning on this blog. This resource is to help me if I ever need a guide to look back to, and it is help my fellow webmasters.

Thanks for the list
The main problem I have is that I struggle to find the time to update profiles and stay connected, which is why the only 3 profiles which I currently use are Digg, StumbleUpon (although toolbar isn’t working), and Propeller.
How do u manage to keep it all updated and sociable?
I don’t. These are just some places people can join to promote the sites. I am not saying join all of them
How many do u try to keep updated/how many do u think is a reasonable amount? 4? 6?
true. after all, the work doesn’t end once a profile is set up. that’s really more just the beginning.
i use sites to help my posts get social. by i think we should stick with 5-6 social networks and develop them to get good results
True, it is good to have 5 or 6 sites that you constantly update, but it can’t hurt to have your name researched on some sites that arn’t updated quite as often.
Thanks for the list, the only social media site I’ve had any real success with is Stumbleupon and they banned me
Great list thanks,
I’ve been meaning to sign up for some of these social media sites. With this list it will be easier
Only the rating sites and networking sites are the ones i normally use
Btw good list.
Excellent list. So many bookmarking sites I have never been to before. Thanks
I have been so busy creating new blogs that I haven’t taken the time for the social networking like I should and my blogs have not moved like they should.
thankss for the lists
I think I really need them for my blog
Some of these I haven’t heard of so I will have to them out! Thanks for the extensive list!
Judging from my experience sometimes its better to focus on one or two networks that you really like, that way you can become a authority so to speak, gain a following, and hopefully use it to increase your traffic.
Yes it is nice, but I just like to make sure I am on places that I like even if I don’t use it later.
Wow! I had no clue about many of these.
Thanks for sharing Syed.
That is a really big list, very comprehensive I imagine, Thanks for putting it together.
These are very useful and I love that graphic you used.
Thanks for compiling this list Balkhis! I agree with Balkhis, you don’t need to join all of them, in fact I wouldn’t recommend it. Just join the ones that have good pagerank and a no-follow. The #1 website I would recommend is Digg!
I think you are talking about “no no-follow” or the dofollow..
Dude, that’s a lot of freakin sites man! I know we should be using them, but I do find that I sometimes forget about them! Or don’t use them to their full potential.
I don’t mean spamming them either, I mean literally using each network as it was meant to be used. Socializing with and meeting new folks.
Ahhhhh….this is something I need to revisit my strategy on. But I’m not sure I need to be on EVERY site? What do you think?
Should a person join each site, or pick a few and really get involved?
No way, don’t join all of these websites it will be a waste of your time. Just add the social bookmarking plugin to your WordPress blog and let your users submit it to whichever social network they want to submit it to. You should submit your major articles on Digg, Propeller, and Sphinn. These are the top three I know of.
Sorry, a little off topic here but why is the title of your blog now “Advertise” – u seeing where u will rank in the SE’s or something? Or is it an error?
Which page ?? It must be an error.
The home page of your blog – the title in my browser says “Advertising” – may want to check it out
Send me a screenshot because I checked with other users and they said it is the normal title …
I checked on the main page and I can confirm that there is no title that says “Advertising”. Otooo may have spyware or adware on his computer that makes this title come up.
I only use few such as digg, propeller, stumbleupon. The rest, not much time to submit.
well thanks a lot for the list…. however i knew about the bookmarking sites but didn’t have any idea abotu the search engines n all
Thanks for the great list, I’m going to work my way down. Personally I think stumbleupon is the best, and it gives really high quality traffic despite the rumors, my visitors average over 3 minutes and it’s in the thousands so it’s definately readers. I am curious though how you would use myspace to help your blog? I’ve used facebook a little bit, and am curious about any suggestions you would offer, for justifying the time spent on it.
Thanks,
Jonathan Muller
Nice list, I use Blog Engage as well.
Who gives you the most traffic?
I’ve check the list one by one. Only few of them are dofollow and good for SEO
.
Anyway thanks for categorize the list. Great post
I sure was not aware that there was that many bookmarking sites available. It seems like an overabundance of them, and that a few will probably close up shop in the near future. Having 10 IBMs can only last for so long.
Hey, that’s one real comprehensive list. Thanks for sharing it. I know it must have taken quite an effort creating it.
This is a great list, but the only ones I use is StumbleUpon and Digg, they bring great traffic
A month ago, i used t think that social networking sites are only used for gossiping and chit chatting(flirting for some). But, you can definitely use it to your advantage. As rightly said, everything has some pros and cons. How true!!!
Thanks for the list, the only social media site I’ve had any real success with is Stumbleupon and they banned me
Some of these I haven’t heard of so I will have to them out! Thanks for the extensive list!
I manage my social bookmarks links with Advanced URL Catalog a bookmark manager that can integrate social bookmarking sites.
