Learn Product Marketing from Transformers Movie
Yesterday, I went to watch Transformers Part II (Revenge of the Fallen). Quite Frankly, I must say it was a job well done. Now from the preview, the movie was unpredictable. But the reason for me going to see it was not their preview, but it was their previous product, Transformers Original movie.
Right now Transformers is at #1 in Box Office with 112.0 Million, and I will say the main reason is because they have loyal followers. So in this post I will share why they will have alot of sales in the second movie.
Quality Product
They have a quality product. Their first movie was so good that people rushed to see the second movie. Now second movie in itself was good, but without the first movie, it wouldn’t generate a buzz like it did. So remember if you have known to produce good products, your next product will automatically be trusted. Learn to Gain Trust.
They had loyal followers
Since they have gained trust, they got loyal followers. Who were eager to see the next movie which is why they rushed to see it. The key in series products is to have loyal followers. So whatever you produce, whenever you produce, they will be there to buy it.
Original Plot
One of the main reason why I love Transformers is because of its original plot. Even though the second one was a sequel, it had its own unique touches. You must not forget when making a series product, don’t let it too heavily dependent on the previous post. Leave enough room for people to start from this level.
Hot Girl in the Cover
You think this technique doesn’t work? LOL. It will always work as long as there are men in the world. Megan Fox in this movie got alot of people to go and watch the movie.
Now even though I saw it in theatres, when it comes out in DVD, I will buy it as well because I am a crazy fan of this series. I think if they keep going, they will surpass James Bond and Harry Potter.

“Hot Girl in the Cover”: It really works
The point you made about Megan Fox is spot on. But, this was an added advantage to the good-will and a name the movie created for itself after the first part was made. And one more thing that I would like to mention is, that looking at the second movie’s quality, it doesn’t seem that the maker were just riding on the performance of the first movie. This shows that you have to churn out quality every time and live up to the expectations that viewers have.

basically… the 3d animation that makes me want to watch it,
and the storyline doesn’t show a lot about Auto-Bot.

Your points are all absolutely correct. Take other sequel movies like God Father, Rocky, Terminator, and of course the greatest of them all, Star Wars etc.
Transformers 2 is a good movie. Your comparison of it with real-life marketing was faboulous!

Transformers is pretty cool, but it has a long way to go to match the classic series mentioned…star wars, bond, etc. It is B list actors riding the fame of the Transformers brand. Sure Megan Fox is extremely hot, but it is the childhood memories of the original cartoon & toys that bring in more people.
I enjoyed the original Transformers from (2007). I also watched Transformers when I was younger especially the Beast Wars: Transformers I think it was, the one with the computer animation and the raptor Transformer. I am looking forward to Transformers 2, but ill wait until it is out on DVD. I do completely agree with you that the large fan base of loyal followers is the reason this movie succeeded, and of course a “Hot Girl in the Cover” doesn’t hurt.
I loved Transformers! I’ve seen both of them and probably like the 2nd one even better than the first. I agree with you about quality – the same in your own business. You give quality and people will come to trust you and seek you out.
I think that a solid fan base is definetly important. These are the people you can count on and spread the hype.
“It will always work as long as there are men in the world.” Actualy no. The latest research shows that consumers don’t really respond to “sex” in whatever form. There’s too much of it everywhere (starting with the internet) so people don’t really notice it any more.
Good point Stancja. Sex is definitely becoming a less effective sales tactic. It has been diluted to the point of being less attention grabbing.
I thought the movie in general was pretty poor. Interestingly however Megan Fox has been criticizing the director, Michael Bay, nonstop, even though most of us never would have heard of Megan were it not for these movies. If there’s a Transformers 3 she will not be in it.
no doubt all the points are correct,and the combination of all them brought to success.But different things might happen,strar also may fail it all depends.
I think the loyal followers are the most compelling part. Most critics are fairly negative on the movie, but they have a “brand” built, so people go see it anyway.
I haven’t watched the second part yet, but i will certainly as it come to my local cinemas, because first part was great. So you have absolutely right.
Yea, I noticed a lot of critics downing this movie. They are slapping themselves across the head not knowing why it was still so successful. It’s all about marketing although this was still a good movie.

Alot of the movie companies really do a great job at marketing their movies, I try from time to time to see what they are doing to promote their movie to make it successful, it’s hard to learn though because it is on such a huge scale, hehe. I do agree though, “hot” does sell =D, no matter who you are… everyone loves to look at someone who is hot.
