Balkhis - Vision For Success

Twitter to increase traffic on your website

Dear Readers, I would like to thank you for reading this post. I highly value your feedback and would like to know more about my readers. Follow me on Twitter

A few weeks back, I wrote about myself joining twitter. Well since the end of the month is coming along, I wanted to share my results on twitter. First of all, I did spend quiet some time on following people and kind of got tired after following over 20,000. But in result, I got over 900 people who are following me, and I recieved a good amount of traffic.

Here was my strategy:

I am not a famous person like shoemoney or johnchow, so not many people will just follow me. Therefore, I decided to follow everyone else. Someone will follow me. Maybe I won’t get a 100% return in the beginning, but sooner or later I will get enough followers. Well I spend a good amount of time following people, and then now I have left it alone. Each day, I get over 30 – 40 new followers. So My strategy seems to be working.

Now Twitter increases traffic to my site, but I like it as a tool also. First, I am sure people can just link to their post in all of their new entries, but that would be spamming the service. So I don’t post a link to balkhis alot, it is in the sidebar though under my website, so people visit through there.

In the past month twitter sent a good amount of people. Screen shot below:

Traffic stats from twitter

Now I think that is a good amount of visitors. Now I got one designing contract from twitter, and have had some good conversions from just visitors to loyal readers. I think it is a good tool, but don’t spend too much time on it. Otherwise you will get addicted like me :P

If you aren’t at twitter, then get twitter. Also remember, sometimes twitter can outrank your own site. I have seen some examples where people pick their site’s name, and twitter rank higher. I picked balkhis the name, and I am hoping that google stays in my favor.

Anywayz good luck everyone this is my stats from twitter. I believe it is a good way to advertise your new products.

Interesting.

I never could get a hold of Twitter.. the idea of letting people know what I’m doing.. do people actually want to know about that? Weird..

I might give it another go again or follow someone (like you) and re-visit again

Hi,

How did you get those stats from? Any suggestions? Good luck for the contract.

Thanks!

Basically I added the people in this industry, and have posted a few about Balkhis.

Are you implying that it’s okay to follow just anyone regardless of their interests or industry? Isn’t it better to follow people who have the same interests as you? Maybe I’m wrong. :)

I am not implying that you should follow every random person. I added my followers from people who were following guys like Darren, John Chow, Shoemoney. People who are intersted in affiliate marketing. Or people who I thought were cool.

I actually considered your twitter account to be a twitter-spam account so I didn’t follow you back. Your strategy was so obvious for me as a twitter user that you instantly became uninteresting to me.

Now you might ask “well, you ended up here, so I must have done something right”. Yes, I did check my list of followers and eventually I got bored and checked your feed and saw the link to this post. But you were still using unethical spam tactics.

I am not using any unethical tactics. There is nothing that says on twitter that you can’t add people. Second thing, any one who send me a direct message on twitter gets a reply. If this was a spam account then you would never get any reply.

It is called mass advertising. I am not sending anyone any email. Like you said, you got bored and decided to check it, so you were not forced. Now that you are here, I don’t know what is your opinion of this site, but I would like to know.

If you consider this technique unethical, I would like to know your definition of unethical. I know many people who steal email addresses and sell them. That is something that is unethical. But considering me just following people. Not sending them emails or anything simply putting stuff on my page. If you like it you will visit it otherwise it is your choice.

I don’t see anything wrong with that.

Hi Balkhis.

I thought your reply deserved more than just a short note here, so I have written a blogpost about the subject here:

Also, I noticed that your pingback is broken. It sent my pingback to the wrong post.

Glad that you took some time to write about this topic. By the way pingback is not broken, I just have to approve every ping to prevent spam.

I have not received much traffic from twitter. That’s because I’m not following a lot of people. Once I get into action, I’ll get lots of traffic to my blog. :)
