I agree with most of your points except the peel away ads point. They only convert well in non-webmaster niches as per my experience.

I think the 125×125 adverts work the best because you really cant miss them…also know sure if you away but the header banner on the homepage is cutting out the top tabs on IE8 and FF!

I am used to buy sitewide text links and they work good for increasing my backlinks. I haven’t done any advertising for increasing my traffic yet.
