Business Deal 101

We are all doing business online if you are making money from your website. Alot of us make business deals with other companies. Now you could be providing a service, a good, or anything worth value that another party wants. But before you go any further in the process, you need to set your guidelines clear. Every single part of the contract must be understood by both sides because a little misunderstanding can cause alot of trouble in the future.

Now some misunderstandings are natural, while others are done on purpose by scammers.

Someone might ask a professional designer to show them mock up designs with a deposit and then pretend not to like them and get the money back. That will give them ideas and they can hire someone cheaper and show them the screenshots and next thing is that they have a design just what you made with a little editions. Now even if you watermark the image, these people can still make a duplicate one, and own a psd. Now this is just one example, there are many. Maybe you have a store where you sell an intangible good, and once the advertisement is recieved, your advertiser does a chargeback. What can you do?

Well let me tell you one thing, most of the time with Paypal the dispute results doesn’t favor the seller, but there are ways you can make it turn in your favor. You need hard core evidence. How ? Well you need to make the deals that involves some third party. Therefore don’t ever use instant messengers because even if you save it no one will believe you because no one else can testify for you. I know MSN won’t come in and show their log for just one paypal case. It is good to talk to clients through instant messengers, but make sure you send a copy to their email address and say for instance:

You are going to pay me $600 to make a website. This will be 50% of the total payment and this will be paid before the work done, and only $300 is refundable. Do you agree in the email. If they say yes then you have record. If they say no then you better work things out.

Same with selling links and such online. I will use directory owners because i ran a directory before, and i have gotten many chargebacks but even as a seller i won all of them. How? I put a checkbox in my submission page, so when the user submit it requires them to fill the checkbox otherwise they can’t submit, and by checking that box they agree to the Terms of Service. Now if they want to read, they can otherwise it is their loss. So if you ever get into a case you can say well they clicked the box and agreed to the submission guidelines, or show screenshots of the email message and win the case.

Another good way is communicating through online forums, now these big webmaster forums like digitalpoint and other ones give you plenty of space to have a communication this way it goes to your pm box also it sends an email with the content, so you have two proofs.

Alot of people don’t fight the paypal dispute and just refund, if you really want these scammers to learn a lesson then fight the dispute because the worst they are going to do is take the money from you and refund him. You were going to do that anyways.

Now you might be wondering what inspired me to write this today

Evaluating your ads

*This was one of the question i recieved through the email and therefore i have decided to write the post in the starters section.

Webmasters love money. Where they see money, they will reach to get it into their pockets, but hold your hands and think before you reach. There many people who would be willing to pay you for your traffic, your PR, but you have to think that your traffic is not exactly your asset because your users are loyal to you and they only come to your website because they find it useful. If you start to offer ads that are not related to the content

then you will turn your users down, and you will loose your bragging rights when the next month you see less visitors.

Evaluating the ads

Now when i say ads, it can be ads from Adbrite, Bidvertiser, or Private Ads … you must evaluate them. See whether they are related to your content. Suppose you own a webmaster blog, and some one wants a casino link from your website. They are willing to offer you $500 / month. Should you take it? Well atleast i wouldn’t take it because it is not related to my website. If you have a casino related website then sure you should take it, but my website is not, so i would not take it. Now i said in the last post always Under Promise and Over Deliver. So if you promise to your users that your site will be Family Friendly, you should not post any adult site. Any Casino site. Any Warez site. Any site that is not family friendly. If you never put that on your website, then you have nothing to be afraid of, but Warez sites are a big no from my side followed by Porn and Casino.

What can you do to fix the ads?

Ahh…. You would have to read more in the post.

Quality vs. Quantity

A few days back i got this email from a guy asking me what he should do. He wants to start multiple adsense websites. I said why is that. He said well i figure if people can make $10 / day with an adsense site, i can make about ten of them and earn $100 / day. I said very well and wished him good luck.

What do you think happens when someone talks about quantity. All the projects launches, but none of those really come through. I personally am a believer of quality rather than quantity. While i had a directory, i only kept it one at a time because i knew it will be really hard to do things alone. I would never get a chance to come around to something, and i dont want to have something unsuccessful and have my name attatched to it.

While i do not think that whatever i start goes onto become a big success story, but i try to put the most i can in that one thing so when i look back i can say that I did everything in my power at that point in time. This quality vs. quantity debate is a big time debate.

What would you pick?

10 sites that might make 2$ a day each and get you a bad reputation

or

1 site that have a potential of making $100 a day

I say the one site because i like to have a good reputation. Reputation is a key to online business, so you need to make sure that you have a good reputation. If you see in most of the webmaster forums where i have been a member for a long time, and i am active my reputation is in the higher levels and all positive trader ratings, so stay with quality.

Now i am not saying that keeping one site means quality. One person can keep multiple quality sites, but each time it gets harder, so consider twice before diving into something new. In my upcoming posts i will be talking about some of the seo tactics, income status, and offer some designer resources, so stay updated.

Steps to start a Blog and maintain a Blog

This post is related to bloggers, and specifically the starters (first timers). I will give a step by step guide for new bloggers that will get them started with the blogs and help them maintain it. In this post, i will be discussing the process of setting up, running the blog, promoting the blog in a very detailed version. I will also post it in my youtube channel, so for those who want to listen to me talking, feel free to subscribe to my youtube channel.

All right first timers hold tight !

Pick a Niche
Often times people want to start a blog just to make money, but how exactly are you going to run that blog? What niche would it be? Who would be your audience? What are you going to write about? (I hope you know you would have to write something that interest your audience) for example If you have a insurance blog, then you would have to write reviews of insurance companies, recent updates in the insurance companies and such. Be Prepared to write (Money should not be one of your factor at all at this point, it should be what you think you can do and love doing it.)

Pick a Platform
Now it is time for you to pick a platform. Now i am assuming if you are thinking of starting a quality blog, you are getting a top level domain (tld). There are many blog platforms you can use. When i say platform, i mean softwares because it is almost impossible to run a blog with plain html. Now out of all that are listed there, if you have been reading this blog you should already know which one i am going to recommend, but if you still don’t know which one, then now you will. I will recommend each and everyone to use Wordpress
for their blogs. Why? Because i am a wordpress user. I love using it, and i think it is one of the best softwares due to the easy user-interface, easy-admin interface, and unlimited possibilities. There are tons of wordpress plugins and addons that are available. Also there are many free templates that are available also. Check out Balkhis WP Themes :)

Find a Webhost

Well now that you already have selected your blogging platform. I am hoping wordpress, you need a quality webhost to hold your website online. Now i know for sure that Host Gator and Blue Hosts are one of the top class webhosts, so i would recommend you to get started with them. I have a link to both in my sidebar, so i didn’t post it here. Another webhost you can use is our sister site, Uzzz Productions. While Uzzz is new, we have 99.9% server uptime, and are ready to host all sort of websites. Once you have selected the webhosts, now you are ready to move to the next step.
