Paid Advertising, Is it the Best?

Dear Readers, I would like to thank you for reading this post. I highly value your feedback and would like to know more about my readers. Follow me on Twitter

Paid Advertising is a very common method used by webmasters online. There are many ways of paid advertising including Paid Link, Adwords, Blog Posts, Banner ads etc etc etc. In my experience, Paid Advertising is proven to give results. Is it always good results, Not Always.

A while back Google launched its anti-paid links campaign, which caused multiple sites to be banned. Why because they were paying to manipulate ranking in google by buying high pagerank links. Since then, many webmasters has stopped this technique and are not promoting as much. While, that is a safe way because you will never be ban from google, but slowly and surely you will loose your traffic.

Now does it mean Google will ban all sites that buy or sell links. NO ! This warning was for those who were buying links everywhere based on pr not niche necessarily. If you own a nascar shop and you paid Nascar to put your link on their website. Well yes Nascar have a high pagerank, but because that it is related to your niche, you will not face any problems. On the other side, if you own a Nascar shop and just buying links everywhere so you can rank #1 for Nascar shop in google. I can bet you that you will be banned. So for instance, if i am to advertise at Chow or Shoemoney, i will not be banned because these guys do the same thing what i am doing, but if i go ahead and buy links on some random amazon store i am likely to be banned because my blog doesn’t offer anything that is related to the audience of that amazon store.

Adwords Campaign while is a good way to grow the business fast, but requires heavy investment, or alot of experience. There are multiple books online that you can find to help you. The best one to start is Adwords for Dummies which gives the basic about adwords because if you dont target the right keywords, you can end up loosing alot of money.

The way i find very useful in paid advertising is Blog Reviews, these reviews get you tons of traffic and natural backlinks especially if the review is done by the blog owner not you writing your own post. I offer review service here and you can find the rates at our advertising page. Many other blogs like Chow and Shoemoney also offers reviewing services.

Banner advertisings are not good unless it is related to your niche because banners tend to be more expensive then regular text links, so you want to expose your banner to the audience that will come to your site, not to people who will ignore your banner and your website.

You can always pay to sponsor products, sponsor contests, and other activities to get traffic and it brings in alot of traffic. If anyone of you are interested in sponsoring the next contest on Balkhis, feel free to use the contact form.

Just be cautious that some of you might be using the paid text links on irrelevant sites, and are benefitting from it right now, but in a long run you can face the consequences. Live example is Big Web Links, This website was promoted heavily everywhere, and yes i mean everywhere from webmaster related to site to a real-estate blog. Each contained a link to that site. It even got a PR 7 in the first update. Its alexa went down to 17k and then suddenly Google’s leash was pulled. The site was deindexed from google and the pr was dropped to zero (0) , so don’t buy links on irrelevant sites just because they have high pr.

To answer the question whether Paid Advertising is really the best. I believe it is the best if it is done wisely. Meaning you know what you are doing such as with adwords, choosing the right keyterms, placing the right bid and so forth. Paid Advertising provides good short term results, and if done right, good long term result as well. Also one critical thing i forgot to mention was if you sell links on your site, make sure you review it before you put it on your site because if it is on your site it means that you are recommending them so it reflects upon your website what type of links you have. You don’t want your users to get a negative impression :) Work Hard, and Work Smart

Great post Syed. So what your saying is that purchasing a link may be all right as long as the site is relevant to the one it links to.

yup that is exactly what i am saying. I think that if i link to a site that my users can possibly use as a resource and will help them, then i won’t be harmed.

How would google know whether Wikipedia or dictionary.com paid me if i link to them. They in reality don’t know that, but if i link to them in my post to find a word it helps my user. So even if it is not a nofollow link it won’t harm me or them.

I think what happened was that when Google sees some schemes or link trains to manipulate the system they dont like it and they penalize people because of it.

Excellent article and lots of detail. I think that paid advertising can be a loss if you dont plan ahead. Make sure you know what to expect before you pay for advertising.
