Schedule your posts on wordpress – Always on time
WordPress is such a cool blogging platform that I can’t emphasize it more. People who are not using it are missing out on alot of the functions it can do. The function I am about to discuss is a very simple one, but I think people who are just getting into this industry will find this helpful. In this post I will show you a way to schedule your posts on wordpress, so you can always stay consistent with publishing your post, and your users will know a specific time to be prepared to read your blog. So you will always be on time.
This feature helps me alot as I am travelling more and more now days. I can just schedule the post and wordpress will post it. Since I was using this feature alot, I thought to myself did I write it on my blog, so now here you go.
First you would need to login to your admin panel
Write your Post
Before hitting publish, right above that button there is a text which reads Publish Immediately with Edit as hyperlink.

Click Edit and Enter the date and time. (Use Military time which means add 12 to every thing after 12p.m) So if it is 8:46 p.m that you want to put your post, you will type 20:46. (Military Time Guide) Use the Military guide if you need more help.

Once you have entered the time and date, then hit publish. The wordpress script will schedule the post for that time.

Why does it matter? Well because you give your users a certain time so they can read the latest news.
You know there is a reason why news paper comes out in the morning every day. People actually wait for their morning paper eagerly. Some people actually wait to read your blog eagerly. By doing this you can give those users a time to expect a new post. I have tried multiple times, and 7:30a.m EST worked out very good for me.
Well now you know how to schedule your posts on wordpress.

Hey, I am Syed Balkhi, The guy who is behind Balkhis Inc. I entered the industry back in 2002 not knowing a single thing. I barely spoke English at that time. In the past six years, my language barrier has been eliminated. Aside from English, now I also speak html, and php. Along with the languages I have also managed to master a few arts. Art of web-designing started when I first entered. Messing around with photoshop, I learned how to create my first web design. Now I founded a web designing firm Uzzz Productions. After running numerous amount of websites in various niche, I have mastered the art of web-development. Now I am compiling a resource of what I already know, and what I am learning on this blog. This resource is to help me if I ever need a guide to look back to, and it is help my fellow webmasters.

The feature is really helpful. Earlier feedburner would mess up a scheduled post. It would display the post in the feeds as soon as it was published even if it was scheduled for later. With WP 2.5, the prob seems to have been resolved.
But is there any way to convert the time into local time. Coz I have noticed that when you are writing a post and it gets autosaved, it shows my local time and the ‘publish immediately’ link shows some international time. (I live in India).
I don’t post everyday so it doesn’t make a difference to me really. Also I don’t post after a fixed interval of time. But I post an interesting video every Sunday so this feature really helps.
check out this screenshot. I write a very short post, hit save and then click on the ‘edit’ link. The screenshot also has my system time. All 3 different times! Gets really hard to predict the time of schedule sometimes.

it will be the same if you go in your admin panel and put the same GMT … so if you are at -5 GMT meaning EST then put that in your admin panel and it will be the same time then.
Now it looks perfect. My time was UTC+5:30
Remember having seen ‘+5:30′ somewhere in the WinXP installation.
Tried that out and it worked for me. Thanks. nice post.
Now i understand why i get your post at the same time everyday. This post is very helpful to me since i will travelling a lot soon.
hehe yeah I try my best
Where are you going to be travelling to ?
Yeah, thats true, I usually set up my time for 2am every day and thats what I noticed with Syed too that it was showing up at the same time daily. I figured he was doing the same thing!
I have been using this feature for awhile now. I think it is great and when you go on vacations into the “wild” it is a good way to keep the blog posts comeing. Caugh Caugh…
Anyway I just used this feature to set up a post to hit tomorrow about noon mst.
Very nice option, I was not aware of such a function. Thanks for letting me know, I don’t write enough to use this feature yet.
Your ML contest really brought traffic to your blog Syed, I see alot more commnents lately; good job!
yeah th contest has increased traffic and got me some exposure in the blogosphere.
hello syed balkis, this autoposter can effect to my email. I received your email on 14 June,. actually, you post on 13 June.
That is probably feedburner’s fault. It sends out emails on the next day. So if you have posted two posts in a day, you get them both in the same mail on the next day.
Dunno why Feedburner feels that way but I would like to have the mail delivered as soon as the post is published
yeah but feedburner delivers them all at once. It is like a daily news letter therefore it is once a day.
Thanks for a wonderful tutorial
I also schedule my post
Using this feature is really helpful for when you have weekly features such as my website, which has a feature for every Sunday (Sunday Sports Selections). It allows you to write your weekly features any time during the week and just set them up to be posted on the particular day.
Thanks for that post. Most people dont realize what that is for. I just wish that the post time stamp was not based on 24 hrs and instead of 12 hours. Meaning that 1pm wouldnt show up as 1300 hours but its a great feature. I use it all the time!
Well this is very useful for blogging … i haven’t tried it yet .. will use this option for auto posting for weekends .. and that example of Newspaper was best one
