The Greatest Skill of Blogging which Experts Possess and Beginners Want

Dear Readers, I would like to thank you for reading this post. I highly value your feedback and would like to know more about my readers. Follow me on Twitter

As a blogger what do you think is your greatest skill? I think the reason what makes the top bloggers different from others is that they have the greatest blogging skill. This is one of the skills that every beginner needs to have if they want to become an expert. And you will be surprised when I tell you that it is not writing good content. It is not getting your users engaged. It is not having the convincing voice. Instead it is:

Learning From Your Yesterday’s Experience and Having a More Productive Day Today

Basically it is saying that you become a Better Blogger each day faster and faster. Technically most people learn over the course of the days and months. That is because they analyze the site over the six month period. I am telling you to analyze your blogs daily.

Every night before I sleep, I try to do this. It is something that I learnt from Benjamin Franklin’s Biography. He used to look over his day before he sleep and put himself as an outsider which led him to learn more about himself. He improved his mistakes and now we see him on the 100 Dollar Bill.

Before you are ready to go to bed, check your stats for that day. See what you did which made you either gain or lose traffic. Think of ways what you can do tomorrow to improve, and then do those tricks. And repeat the process every day. And I will guarantee that it will work.

Think of it from the perspective of a production company. Think of yourself as a shoe production company. You started off along with two others company with the same resources.

Company #1 – Starts out producing 15 shoes a day and kept this production rate. (No Improvement)

Company #2 – Starts out producing 15 shoes a day and increase their daily rate by 5 shoes. (Improvement Skill is Present – Most Bloggers are in this category)

Company #3 – Starts out producing 15 shoes a day and increase their production by 5 on the first day, then move it to second the next day, and then fifteen on the third day and so on. (Greatest Improvement – This is what you want to be)

Now I am sure you like the idea of #3, but how can you do this as a blogger? I have mentioned above what you I do, but there are three personality traits that you need to adapt before you can achieve this skill.

3 Personality Traits to Achieve the Greatest Skill of Blogging

Stay Focused – There are many things that can be improved in your blogging. But you can’t do it all at once. So start with one aspect and work your way up. When you try to do it all at once, you either get distracted, or unmotivated. Which is a reason why most bloggers quit. If you don’t make blogging a chore, then you will stay motivated. And in order to do that you need to stay focused. Take a week to improve, your design, then one week to old posts, then one week to improve your SEO. Make as many categories that needs improvement, and then rotate them in cyclical manner weekly, daily, however you like it.

Never Give Up – Don’t ever give up this method. It might seem hard, and you might think that you are stressing yourself. But remember that this is the best way to improve faster and take the competitive edge over your peers.

Don’t Be Arrogant – No matter how much you know, you will never know enough. This is one trait that you must have in order to be a fast improver. Try to learn new things every day. Push yourself beyond your limits.

I can tell you that this technique is not easy. But those who adapt to this style usually become better bloggers. I know I have improved alot, and I am still no where close to my full potential. This technique not only works with blogging, but it works with entrepreneurship, and daily life as well.

Just remember don’t give up and try to improve at a faster rate than constant improvement rate. This way you will achieve success faster.

Successful bloggers like John Chow always say that you can never make money online with your blog if your aim is only to make money with it or you started that blog to make money. In other words, he would still be blogging if he was not making $40K+ per month!

Yeah but sometimes you need to have an aim to motivate you to achieve it :D

I find that the blogs that really appeal in an aesthetic way are the ones that are not monetized. The monetized ones, somehow get too cluttered and artificial, though they may be making money for the owners. If you like, I can quote many such sites that are really painful to visit.

Great post, loving the comparisons with the shoe companies!

I have been learning from yesterday. I make a to-do list, cross out the things I do, and whatever I haven’t done, I ask myself “why didn’t you do it,” and “what would have happened if I actually did do this.” So it’s similar to what you were suggesting, and it has been helping me get what needs to be done!

So much about staying focus. As a blogger myself, i know it is really easy to get distracted.

You speak the truth when you say analyze your bog daily instead of by the months. Yes I can imagine Mr. Franklin doing that each night before he went to bed. It’s a nice idea to lay out your daily positive points and mistakes, so you can strive to do better the next day. As for personality traits and mindset, you have to come into work with the right attitude. Yes staying focused is crucial, multitasking is never a good option in my book. Its of course, also just as crucial to stay positive and fight through the tough times… don’t give up.

I would also add that it is really important to be persistent, just keep on posting every day and sooner or later your visitors will appreciate that.

As a blogger… that has his own personal blog… I feel that the greatest skill a blogger can have is consistency. Consistency in anything you do, but the consistency must be a good consistency, and not a consistency of making posts every 2 months, etc. hehe. And always be improving yourself, like you suggest with the Benjamin Franklin Example.

Till then,

Jean

Money shouldn’t be your primary criteria, when starting off with a blog. You should aim to hit the google search engines, and develop a standard, so people will come in. Everything else, will follow :)

Very well said, “if you are into blogging only to make money, then you will be restricted to a few bucks”. Only if you do it passionately, there is serious money to make. Quality is of the essence and the rest comes with it.
