Title - important or not?
Why is the title of this post so obscure. Thats because you will remember this title if you read it. When we are writing posts on our blog, the title can be anything. But whether it is a good title? You need to learn the tactic of attracting users to read the blog post just by reading your post title. Having said that, I have established the point that a Good title is an essential element for the blog post.
A blog which is being operated/managed by my girlfriend Amanda M. Roberts, Word Scrawl has done some amazing jobs with the title of their blog posts. I have the access to the blog’s traffic and such and I analyzed it and see each thing that was done for the blog, and I thought I should share some insights of the blog to give you guys some techniques.
Controversial Titles
A post written by Ms. Roberts called “The Dumbest Generation“. The title itself is so controversial that it started getting attention when she submitted the post to stumbleupon. For the next 7 - 10 days the traffic got 6000 UV increase daily. That sent a crazy buzzz because I was worried about adsense because they can have some serious problems with it. Not only that if you notice the post got alot of comments. 38 !!! That is a whole lot for a new blog. Now this can be something you can take and learn from. Using social bookmarks (Best one Stumbleupon), and taking the controversial title of your blog post, you can significantly increase your traffic, and subscribers because Word Scrawl saw an increase in the subscribers.
Make the title stick to your user
Now long before the post appeared on John Chow or SEO Crunch many of the smart bloggers knew this trick while others didn’t. These posts were saying how to make your title stick with your user. Steve of seocrunch used the terms of title sticking like peanut butter while the guest blogger at chow used gooey marshmallow. Now could these people have been talking crap ?? NOO… Here is a proof:
Anorexia of Technology - a post written at Word Scrawl which recieved tons of traffic just because the title was interesting as well as the people who read it returned also.
Same happened with multiple of my posts such as Your Website’s Identity, Who is your Audience, Greedy for Backlinks and many more. Most of these posts recieved tons of traffic from social bookmarks and search engines due to the keywords in the title.
Another cool little trick you can add into your title is the word free, or easy. Some sort of word that your audience really wants. We know Free is what everyone wants, but title like i used Easy way to get Backlinks … believe me when i say this the site got so much traffic, and the same day i noticed an increase in subscribers.
These are some things you can use on your blog to get better results as in traffic wise and see an increase in subscribers also. Remember to leave your comments.

Nice post and some really good point marked
Great post and I like that you broke the post down by main points. It makes for an easier read.
Even your titles are good Syed. Even if you didn’t mention your stats, your posts do ’stick’!
hehe Sometimes I try to write titles that attracts user, but most of the times it is just natural.
Title is definitely important as I have seen that John Cow has used the idea of controversial titles to his advantage. The title is what makes a post because nobody is going to read an entire post if the title is not tempting to them.
Everybody has their own opinion, i think that with out titles their really wouldn’t be any reall attraction to the post it self. For me thats what frist catches my attention.
