Balkhis - Vision for success

Can money buy everything?

Mar 29, 2008  Syed Balkhi  Money

Can money buy everything? Can it buy you? Can it buy your identity? Not mine. Definately not. There are some things that I would not sell for money and my identity is one of those thing. I recently visited a webmaster forum which I used to be very active in, and was shocked by the theme. They just sold the entire theme design for sponsorship. How lame is that?

For a few thousand bucks, you are going to give away your own identity? It is just very sad to see that. If you are wondering which forum I am talking about, Yes it is Namepros. They sold theirself out, and along with the forum, they sold out all the loyal users who have been supportive to namepros. I have been a member for over 3 years now, and It was very disappointing to see that the administration will be so cheap.

They sold off the entire theme design to this guy named Rick Latona for a certain period of time. I don’t know when it is going to revert back, but here is a screenshot:

Cheap Namepros

This will just drive your users away if you ask my opinion. Now, I have lost the respect I had for that community’s administration. If you want to be respectable in front of your user’s eyes than don’t ever do that. What are your thougs on this? Would you ever sell your site’s branding off for a certain period of time for some money?

I am really split on this one. I can see how your disappointed in the site Syed. I don’t think I would sell out my design like that.

But some situations call for desperate measures and I don’t really know what the complete situation of the owner of namepros is or how much he received.

Maybe it is not something he wanted to do, but he is just trying to get food on the table for his kids? Depending on the reasons behind his move it could be admireable if you follow me.

Regardless the he will have to deal with the consequences of selling out his theme, whatever they are.

Wow what a dumb change there!
The background all around has Rick Latona in it. It really sucks.

I agree, the design is pretty poor also. Thats just going to kill their user base.

Thats really bad to see such famed forums getting into bad advertising methods. That would really cause them a bad reputation.

I noticed it before 2 days when making a domain deal.
It was hard to read the content at many places.
Not a good change. :(

Now its Showing “BROUGHT TO YOU BY DIGIPAWN.COM” and the theme color is also changed to Leafy Green and white…

Such thing is much shocking … forum is very well known too… so i don’t think the owner wud have been in any Bad Situation or moneyless for taking such step.

I am changing my opinion on this - Making two changes to promotional themes in only a couple weeks is a little over the top. I would imagine the sites reputation will suffer because of it.

Maybe money can’t buy everything, but it makes most things in life a whole lot nicer.

I dont tihnk money can buy everything. I think that money can bring happiness to a certain degree but then again you have jealously, unknown relatives and everything else come with it too.
