My New Service – URL Shortening Site – Ekey.us

Dear Readers, I would like to thank you for reading this post. I highly value your feedback and would like to know more about my readers. Follow me on Twitter

Alright guys. I had this domain for a while now which I was using as a proxy site. Recently with a partner, I have decided to convert it into a URL Shortening Service, or a URL Redirection Service which we called Ekey – Your Key to Shorter URL. I thought of this idea after I got active on twitter that I should come up with my own service.

What is Ekey

Ekey - URL Shortening Service

Ekey is a competitor site of tinyurl.com and many others which allows you to make your long URLs into a shorter url. The website was created to serve the twitter community and make the URLs fit into your tweet and give you enough room to write your message. But it is not limited to twitter community. Affiliate marketers, webmasters, and normal internet users may use this site for their advantages also.

Every affiliate marketer should hide their Affiliate URL if they want to maximize their revenue. Well a lot of them are not using wordpress, or don’t have enough money to buy MaxBlogPress Ninja Affiliate so what should they do? Well they should just head over to eKey.us and hide their URL with a smaller and anonymous URL. Since this service is by me, you know that I won’t be dishonest with anyone. I will guarantee you that your URLs are safe with us and You won’t have to worry about getting your commission stolen or lost.

Every Webmaster should use eKey if they are posting on forums. Often forums don’t allow you to keep linking to your own website. Well half the times moderators just run the query for the term balkhis.com or any other url. All they have to do is ban the user. I have been a moderator and admin of a few forums, so I know this. Well when you use a Url Shortening service like Ekey, you are getting yourself saved from one barrier. Not that I am saying that you should spam the forums with your own URL, but this is a way that you can use if you post your URLs. It is also good for your signature links because most sites have a limit on characters. By using a URL Shortening service you can simply have more links in your signature.

Every internet user should eKey.us because it helps you keep your email links safe. Have you ever received an email with a broken map link. Usually mapquest links are really long, and they usually break in the email. You can prevent that by simply heading to my website and making it shorter.

Features

We have added a Decompress feature on the site that allows you to put in a random ekey.us URL and find out the real URL. So far aside from the redirection service, this is the other feature that is in the website.

We are working on the feature of tracking URLs, so it shows you how many hits your URL has received.

Why eKey instead of Others

One thing is that eKey is well designed and much more cleaner and easier to use than others. Second is that eKey does not put the annoying toolbars on the new opened links. If you were going to use tinyurl.com eKey is way shorter. First our domain is shorter and we only add 5 random characters after the ekey.us domain. So your links will be very small. Lastly because you want to support me and make eKey popular.

I don’t think I need to ramble about eKey anymore, try it use it and love it. I would like to hear what you guys think.

Good one :)

A very simple and good URL shortener.

Mind guest blogging in my blog and posting about this? I would have done that but time does not permit me to do that right now.

Hey Syed, very cool service you have, it’s very simple to use. The only thing I would suggest is to implement some type of privacy feature. Because, not everyone will want their address to be able to be decompressed by others.

Till then,

Jean

That is an interesting thought you come up with. That will make us code a user registration system which will make the service more complicated. I don’t think that would be possible. Even tiny url lets you uncompress every url. Its either have that feature or not have it all.

Well, they would be required to register only if they want it to be private. But… otherwise Yeah I guess you are right Syed, its best to keep it simple. As, simple always works, hehe =D

Till then,

Jean

Are the links 301 redirects?

Yes they are. Because services like ow.ly doesn’t do that, they put their toolbar in the site and make it look like that the visitors are coming from them. Ekey is pure 301 redirects.

I am not afraid of the competition because most people are over doing the process. Adding too many features can sometimes be a downfall as well. I want to keep it simple, so lets see how this goes along.

Hmm interesting, instead of changing the links properties manually you have some plugin do it for you.

Good luck with this project Balkhis. Maybe you should in future to add firefox plugin which will let users create url instant from the page. I think tinyurl has such a feature.

Hi Syed, I’ll be checking your new site out tonight. I think it is a really wonderful idea for the old domain you have. Best of luck always.
