Yes anchor text has a great importance when it comes to optimising your website. Internal linking is really very important. A drop of water makes an ocean. That's really cool man...

Savings, huge sites like cnn and bbc are the exception to many seo rules. With such huge sites, you can really just ride all the natural backlinks that the site would generate over the years. When your overall domain strength is so high, you can get away with ignoring some seo strategies. Then your internal pages can rank well simply due to the strength of the domain.

I agree. Click here is an old habit that needs to be broken. Why waste what could be little extra juice for your rich keyword content with non relevant click here? even if the page is of little importance, keep in mind that every extra bit of unique relevant content will still help your landing or keyword rich pages.

I do disagree with some of the comments, Some sites like BBC,CNN do really well in the search engines and rank highly for very competitive keywords. None of these keywords are being optimised using target anchor text. Explain this? What you see will be the full URL and sites spend hours using anchor text to improve their rankings..

Internal linking is more helpful for Yahoo rankings, but it is definitely something worth doing right. It helps establish relevancy for each page on your site. Sometimes it does make sense to use a 'click here' type link, but you can make that nofollow and include a dofollow keyword rich link somewhere on that page. Although you can randomly use keywords in all of your internal links and have some success, it is much better to properly research which keywords are worth using in links. Try some of these free keyword research tools to help pick keywords that actually get searched for on a regular basis.

I'd say offsite anchor text is more important but onsite can definitely add up to some serious juice. Plus you can control your own site and use what ever anchor text you want.
