Ranking high in search engines with a blog?
Ranking high in search engines, isn’t that what everyone wants? If you are trying to target the new generation, then this is what you need. Because time to get top listings in yellow pages is over. I don’t know a single college student that checks that. Majority of us just google it. So I was consulting with a local client, and they asked me will I rank high if I add a blog to my website? So I asked him why he asked me that question. So apparently there is a rumor out that blogs help search engine rankings.
So Balkhis is the rumor true? I will say Sure it is. But there are variables that account to it.
I remember a little over three years ago when I entered the directory industry, shortly after a new wave came in which basically encourage the use of blogs with sites. So any directory that had a blog had higher traffic. That is when a web directory start going from a web directory to a portal. It wasn’t just with directories. Corporates started using blogging softwares to post news. The reason behind it was not to get search engine rankings. But Corporate goal was to encourage the users into interacting. They had blogs, or inside news in a form of a blog. But the discovery was that it actually helps your search engine ranking.
The key to rank high in search engines is dynamic content. But just dynamic content doesn’t work. You need to make the dynamic content look static. Blogging softwares like WordPress can do it with just a little trick. So since you post new entries it actually helps because WordPress actually have the way to report search engines. These software actually encourages the search engine robots to crawl the new pages and new entries. Therefore your index rate increases. Next important things with blogs are RSS. So you have the content on the site available in multiple format.
From my personal experience, these really helped the search engine ranking when I had the directory. Actually I realized my directory blog was the powerhouse. The one that ranked me high in a lot of places. Heck at the time I was ranked for Webmaster Blog on the first page. Site’s alexa was around 150k before the blog, and once the blog was added it went down to 30k. Now you can see how much traffic the blog itself was getting. I could easily marketed anything that I wanted to with that because of the search engine ranking.
So I will say yes it is a good idea to have a blog with a corporate. But it is not as simple as it looks or sound. You need correct coaching/advices.
WordPress is an awesome tool, but wordpress alone cannot accomplish a lot. You need to know how get search engine friendly urls. Then you need to have All in One SEO Plugin. The bottom line is just read all the seo related tips that I have shared on this blog, and you should be well of.

Google actually likes regularly updated and fresh content. So it’s no surprise that a blog will help you rank higher IF updates are posted on the blog on a regular basis. So yeah, I agree with you a blog will helps…As long as it’s updated!
Ya that’s the reason I think blogs help. It is adding more information to crawl.
frequent, original content is key to maintain any high ranking on a blog. it also encourages commenting and networking with other bloggers.
Interesting tips you have. Whenever you are talking about search engine optimization it seems like you know what you are talking about. So I definitely think that you should talk more about search engine optimization.
I am sure there are so many more things that I can talk about, but I only talk about things that I have experience with. I try to update SEO section, but it is hard to answer my own questions. If people send me more SEO related questions that I haven’t answered already, I would love to write more in this aspect.
I am with you Syed. I think a blog can help immensely.
If someone just throws a blog up and does nothing with it though – it will not help.
Thanks for your articles on SEO optimization Syed! I will definitely need these when I transfer my blog from Blogger to WordPress. It will be interesting to see what happens to my rankings once I make the change.
I’m pretty sure I don’t understand all of this SEO stuff but one thing’s clear, all of this starts with writing good content.

if updates are posted on the blog on a regular basis, I think this will help to rank high. Google loves fresh content
The key to high SERP is pure, original and regularly updated content on your blog. Content is the king for google and also it has been mentioned quite a few times on google guidelines.
I think you’re right, blogs help a lot in rankings. A few time ago I created a blog for someone and in a few weeks the blog was having more traffic then the actual website.
This article helps a lot, thanks for sharing the SEO tips for wordpress blog, I try to test it,
My point of view, one of the power of blog was in RSS feed syndication making tons of backlinks. Not to overlook at keyword and onpage optimization. All these elements are coming as a whole to make SEO functioning well.Additionally, good content bring return trafffics. That’s my 2 cents.
I love my blog because it’s web2.0. If not for my blog I’d be creating sub pages and that’s a little difficult for me as my site is a static one. I have friends tell me and I agree on that too, that most of my search engine traffic goes to blog posts on my site for similar search terms I rank for both my site and blog.
