Now if they visit and like your website, you can get another bookmark and that person’s friend will see your link as well. So in reality while it is building you a few backlinks, it is getting you crazy amount of traffic. Now many of these companies are offering advertising services as well. I am a big fan of stumbleupon as the promotion there really converts into results. It is a similar concept to adsense, and you can read more about advertising with stumble upon here.

Now here is another way you can do this. Get some people to bookmark your site. No i am not saying pay for those services that give you 500 stumbleupons. Most of them don’t work, but actually put a contest like i’ll pay this amount per bookmark you add my site in, and then pay adequately. Now say if you get 20 people to bookmark your site in about 100 or so sites that works like a charm. You get backlinks and from there you can see the bookmark count increases by itself as time goes because people who has bookmarked it now their friends have added you also, and their friend’s friends has added you also. This way you can generate some good traffic by just paying those 20 people and keep the content updated with your blog or your website which you were doing regardless.

Now with most social bookmarks the results doesn’t show fast, but it does come through eventually, but Stumbleupon show results instantaneously because they have over 3 million users in their database who bookmark, surf through sites as a hobby and might surf through yours randomly and search the tags and find you.

Tags are necessary for bookmarks, but don’t spam the tags. Always keep your tags as relevant as you can. The more accurate your tags are the better it is. Keep targetting same tags, so lets say if your website is webmaster related and you offer internet related services. Then keep targetting internet tag and you will show up in the top often.

Now what else you can do. You can encourage your users to add your website and content to these bookmarks.
