To rescue the web designers from this aching job of testing browser compatibility in different browsers there are few websites which offer this service. On these websites you can check the compatibility of your website in all desired browsers. You can find these websites at http://www.bestpsdtohtml.com/7-awesome-resources-to-test-cross-browser-compatibility-of-your-website/

Excellent tips indeed. I am sure using browsershots as help tool is very time consuming, but if you have Windows, take a note that there are standalone versions of Internet Explorer, so that you can run them simultaneously.

I myself actually do design sites and most of my time goes exactly to the browser compatibility. I think it is the hardest part of the whole designing process. I only do it for opera, firefox, chrome and IE though

[...] Assumptions always get the better of you. And majority of the times, you realize when you have screwed up badly. My teacher used to say when you assume, you make an *Ass - out of * You and * ME. Know exactly what you are doing before moving onto the final step. For example checking the design in all browsers before sending it off to the client. Never assume if it works in Firefox than it will work in IE. Or if it works in IE 7, it will in IE 6.
This is a coincidence in one of my classes (webpage design) we have been talking about how some things have problems in certain browsers. I have never really had that much problems with my browser but I guess there are some problems out there, but most of them are pretty minor.
