Pick Between Twitter Followers and Blog Readers
Twitter, a rapidly growing micro-blogging phenomenon, is taking over the internet. Day after day new companies are joining twitter and trying to get their clients. Bloggers are joining twitter to get more followers. Make connection in the industry. And so much more. In 2008 twitter’s traffic grew 752%. So I don’t see why users wouldn’t want to get on twitter. I am on twitter, Syed Balkhi. I am not used to of updating my life because if I am at Disney World, then I want to enjoy my trip rather than tweet what I am doing. But a lot of people update their lives. They get more and more followers and indirectly you are getting a lot of advantage.
Darren Rowse over at Problogger asked this question on his blog. Which would you pick, twitter followers or blog readers? I would appreciate if you guys go and vote there.
Right now the vote for Blog readers is at 701 and Twitter followers are at 107.
I voted for Blog Readers. Why do bloggers go to twitter? To get more readers. So at the end of the day, you want more blog readers. You can’t put everything you want to put in 140 characters. Twitter is too limiting. If I am selling a product, I am better able to do so on my blog. I think my blog readers are more important to me than my twitter followers. Blog readers can contact me through the contact form. Twitter, you can only Direct Message me, if I follow you back. I can’t follow everyone who follows me, so it defeats the purpose.
Twitter is great to get beta testers, perhaps get a quick poll, only if your followers are active. If not then you are screwed.
I will say that I will pick blog readers any day. The best example is that I would’ve never seen Darren’s post on twitter, but since I read his blog through my feed, I saw it.
What do you think?

Hey, I am Syed Balkhi, The guy who is behind Balkhis Inc. I entered the industry back in 2002 not knowing a single thing. I barely spoke English at that time. In the past six years, my language barrier has been eliminated. Aside from English, now I also speak html, and php. Along with the languages I have also managed to master a few arts. Art of web-designing started when I first entered. Messing around with photoshop, I learned how to create my first web design. Now I founded a web designing firm Uzzz Productions. After running numerous amount of websites in various niche, I have mastered the art of web-development. Now I am compiling a resource of what I already know, and what I am learning on this blog. This resource is to help me if I ever need a guide to look back to, and it is help my fellow webmasters.

Twitter is important, right now. Especially with all the media attention its been getting.
I don’t personally have an account, but I’m inching closer to actually getting one.
Definitely blog readers. Most people try to grow their Twitter followers in the hopes that they’ll one day become blog readers.
Blog readers, absolutely.
With the amount of people that people are following on twitter, it’s impossible to be heard above the din if you’ve got something important to say.
I absolutely agree that each blogger needs readers but nobody knows if Twitter followers become blog readers one day.
Blog readers all the way. No two ways about it.
Surely blog readers. Value of blog readers is much bigger then twitter followers, and there is no much think about that.
Ofcourse blog readers. I joined Twitter to promote my blog and not vice-versa.
You make a good point about the limitations of twitter. You van barely tweak a person’s interest with the amount of characters you can use to make a post.
Blog Reader. They are good audience as compared to Twitter. That has been my experience.
I say Blog Readers because Twitter seems to be all clustered and sometimes hard to read what you want to read. Even though I have both I still like blogging better than tweeting on twitter.
I don’t think that is the same. I think blog readers are more important because they are really interesting in what are you writing. As for twitter, sometimes people there just follow you because others do the same.
I would take blog readers. Though I am doing some experimenting with Twitter. I have around 8k of followers, but the thing is when you get that many how do you really keep track of them all?
Like you said, Twitter is just a tool, the desired effect is an increased number of readers. Now having said that the question you ask might become obvious, but is it ? There’s a huge twitter hype going on and I’ve seen many a blog that glorified twitter as the ultimate blogging tool…
i personally feel its too silly to tweet, and if i got to choose between blog reader/feed reader with twitter, then twitter dosenot even comes second.
