Areebu Theme for phpLD and Wordpress
Once again, Balkhis and Uzzz Production is proud to present you the Areebu template for phpLD and Wordpress. This template is named after my brother Areeb, who is also a part of Balkhis.
This template is special for directory owners because it contains category Icon mod, so category on the homepage will have unique icons. This mod is right now a paid one by another vendor, but I am offering it for free in this template.
All you have to do is get the category id number, and rename the icons to those numbers, and you can also add “.png” icons 48 x 48px size with more categories as you go. To find quality Icons, refer to my post Icon Pack for Webmasters.
Note for directory owners: When you install the template, It won’t work in the beginning because Category IDs are different in each database, so you will have to rename the icons or add icons. For those who doesn’t want this mod, I will add a version without the mod also, so for those who doesn’t want to go through the updating of the mod they can just download the other version.
Wordpress version is like normal. I have added some extra widget ready sidebars. If you don’t know how to use it than visit my post about how to create and use extra sidebars.

Which versions of phpld and wordpress are these for?
It is for phpLD 3.3 and Wordpress 1.5 and above … I never heard the question asked about wordpress because their theme style hardly change.

Also, i wanted to display my blog posts (summary of just post title) in the directory sidebar.
How do i do that?
There is a widget called recent posts… You can add that, or there is one dynamic one already in your wordpress. Just add an extra sidebar below your sidebar and display that. To learn how to add extra dynamic sidebars, I have a post in the blog.

I meant to add my blog posts in the phpld directory sidebar.
I believe feedburner have an option of displaying rss into html. If you are running a blog then you should have feedburner, and If you do then go to your feedburner account. Click on the feeds, then click on the tab “Publicize” and on the left hand side there will be multiple options. Pick BuzzBoost, and I believe that gives you a javascript which you can then enter into your phpLD Template. Make sure you wrap the javascript code with literal tag {literal}Javascript goes here{/literal}. I particularly don’t like this way because if I remember correctly, feedburner leaves a link in the javascript which says Powered by Feedburner. If you don’t want that, there are some freebies out there that will let you convert rss to html. I believe I posted it in one of my freebie section. If you can’t get either to work, you are most welcome to hire me and I will do it.

This design is only available for phpLD 3.3, so won’t work with most free directories because they use phpLD 2.xx
I downloaded the template for both PHPLD and WP, and both have just one file in the zip, there are no template files in the zip file?
hmm. Yes there is only one file and that is a folder. Click on that folder and you will see template files.
I tried to open it with WINZIP and it gave me an error saying it is not a valid archive. I unzipped it with WINRAR, and there is only one file in the zip, it is not a folder. It just says “File” . When you check its properties, it still just says “File”.
hmm I don’t know what the issue is. I downloaded the file and opened it with WinRAR just fine.
Not sure, that is strange, and I really could use this! Anyway you could email them both to me? 2.1 and the WP? My email is attached to this comment.

When i attempt to use this on my PHPLD installation the latest version with link bidding, for some reason the link submission form does not work. Any idea’s?
that is because this template is not for the link bidding.. it is only for the general directory…
Ahh, thats a shame, its a really nice template. Are there any tutorials for making a phpLDLink bid version templates maybe I can convert this for you.

Jus wanted to ask whether magazine style themes are SEO friendly, they are being widely used. I want to use them as well, but maintaining them is a real task. Is it really worth the time that it demands?

The theme for Balhkis itself is very sharp in my opinion. I particularly like the blue hue and the posts listed by category on the front page. A nice blend of beauty and function!
